‘Reversed Thunder?’

This is where you come in.

I have taken the phrase ‘reversed thunder’ from the book by Eugene Peterson of the same name. It is a great book, which unpacks the message of the book of Revelation, and in doing so explores the theme of prayer, which has been called (by a guy named ) ‘reversed thunder.’ You see, when we pray (well at least if we pray as we should) we speak back God’s truths to Him: we claim His promises, promises that He has graciously spoken to us in His voice, which thunders from heaven. Therefore prayer has immense power: not because of the one praying but because of the one who gave us the words to pray. It is not simply ‘God bothering’ as one of my friends likes to say. No, it is reversed thunder.

And I need lots of reversed thunder!

Without prayer there can be no missions. Without prayer you cannot plant churches. I don’t mean simply that it will be harder to do, I mean it is impossible. The Church is the body of Christ and He is the one who builds it. So if we work without prayer we are not building the church, rather we will build miniature versions of ourselves. And no one wants a bunch of mini-levis roaming round Japan!

If you’ve read my vision then hopefully you’ve seen that it’s quite a bit bigger than me. Which is one of the things that assures me this is from God. It frankly terrifies me! Except that as well as seeing the vision I have also seen the greatness of God. He who did not spare His own Son, He will surely provide all I need for this task. And prayer is the means God has ordained for that to happen.

If you would like to sign up to support me as an official OMF prayer partner and receive updates via e-mail then you can do so by filling in your details, and my name (Levi Booth) here:

If you fill in the postal details then you’ll also be able to receive literature like OMF’s Billions magazine, which has stories, articles and such from the work of OMF missionaries across East Asia.

And of course if you want to talk to me more about other ways to partner with me, or want more information about praying for me/Japan then please do not in any way hesitate to contact me.
